While hibernation makes us think of quieter times ahead and the gentle wait for spring begins, is that actually an understatement? is there anything gentle about winter? On this crisp clear Canterbury day the weather is on the kinder end of the scale this Matariki weekend, it gives a time to pause for thought and be grateful for our gardens, our family, friends and time spent together, also to reflect on the seasons past and to plan for the ones ahead.
With the autumn harvest well and truly done we are enjoying warming casseroles, winter soups and stewed summer fruit here from our own garden. Now we are nearly a 3rd of the way through winter it's is a time to take stock, plan & prepare for the upcoming seasons. As everything in the garden has slowed down it's nice to tuck up inside, look at some new catalogues and ponder new products for the next season.
In our own garden the seeds are about to ordered and we'll now decide what might go where as the are sown and germinate? We'll be planting up the strawberry runners to take to the shop and if everything goes to plan the summer harvests will be bountiful - but when does anything ever go to plan.?
