Often referred to as a Sussex Trug our trugs are proudly made by hand here in New Zeland. Made from poplar or willow, the hand planed planks and coppiced willow poles along with traditional copper nails are the only components that go into these lovely "trug baskets". With the advent of gardening as a pastime and a passion for the English in the 1700s the garden trug came of age and remained the work container of choice until the modern age. Queen Victoria fell in love with trugs in 1851 at the Great Exhibition and helped make them a desirable fashion statement for the garden. Sold individually this picture represents three of the four sizes we have available.
